lthough best known for his involvement in the second trial and sentencing of Jack McCall, the coward who killed Wild Bill Hickok (see related feature, P. 38), Judge Peter C. Shannon had many other notable adventures and accomplishments in his judicial career on the Dakota frontier, including presiding over the trial of a man who murdered a noted Civil War general.
