    Q My in-laws are backing out of paying for the rehearsal dinner, but they still want to have it at a fancy restaurant. Do we have to keep their plans?

    A Absolutely not! Regardless of their reason for rescinding their offer to host and pay for your rehearsal dinner, your in-laws have put you in a financial bind. You have other options: Host the rehearsal dinner at a nice restaurant and only invite the wedding party, or opt for an at-home, potluck-style event. Everyone can bring their favorite dish, and you’ll still have a nice prewedding get-together. And if your in-laws have a problem with it, they’re welcome to chip in again. Otherwise, they get no say.
