Also known as a cage, this shorter style covers and frames just your face for a more minimalist statement. Most often it’s made out of wide net or sheer tulle—something you’ll easily be able to see through—and finished with whimsical accents like feathers, flowers or pearls. The trick to pulling off this less traditional look is to let the Cage veils were the height of fashion in the ’40s and ’50s, so that makes them the perfect match for retro-inspired dresses like swingy, tea-length gowns, structured sheaths and slinky, old-Hollywood-inspired slip dresses. They’re also a fun way to add a touch of vintage glam to a suit or jumpsuit.
