In April, athletes from 70 Commonwealth nations will descend on Australia’s Gold Coast and duke it out to earn a place in history. The Gold Coast is best-known for the annual World Surf League stop at Snapper Rocks, but nestled just inland of the waves and white sands lies Nerang State Forest, venue for the 2018 Commonwealth Games cross country event.
Australia last hosted the Commonwealth Games in 2006, when the festivities came to Melbourne’s Lysterfield Park; England’s Liam Killeen and Canadian Marie-Hélène Prémont rode to gold medals.
