FOLGEFONNA SUNRISE

The harsh sound of a vibrating phone against hardwood jolts me awake, the sting of the quarter to five start very present as a feeling in my eyes. Less than five hours earlier we’d navigated our way to Holmaskjaer hut to be up at dawn.

I sneak a cursory glance out of the window and see only stars: exactly what we’d come to see. Holmaskjaer hut sits in the middle of three giant glaciers that make up the Folgefonna glacier. Søndre (or southern) Folgefonna is the third largest glacier on mainland Norway and our plan was to set off back to sea level from the hut
