Picture thousands of music fans gaping – some in heartfelt admiration, at least one in dismay – as the singer from U2 huffs and puffs on a Wellington stage over an unkind review that was published earlier that day, in November 1989. Bono (for it was he) was plainly miffed over a less-than-respectful verdict on his music that had been delivered by one notably youthful reviewer (that would be me) in what used to be the capital’s afternoon newspaper.
