Carmine Appice has spent decades in rock ‘n’ roll, starting out as a founding member of Vanilla Fudge; playing both in Cactus and with Jeff Beck, in Beck, Bogart & Appice; and working as a sideman to rock stars like Rod Stewart, Ozzy Osbourne, and Ted Nugent. Appice’s drumming style has , Appice lends his hand to the rock ‘n’ roll memoir. Subtitled , Appice’s tale mostly consists of the first of these, and reading oftentimes feels like reading pornography. Appice discusses his dalliances in startling detail, from his numerous groupie encounters (he estimates approximately 300 in his first year in a band alone) to his front-row seat at the notorious Led Zeppelin mudshark incident. Yes, Appice’s music is covered as well, but too often it feels like the music is more the subtext of the story of his sexual escapades. (
