RIFF OF THE MONTH GHOST Cirice

With a line-up of masked ‘Nameless Ghoul’ musicians and a trademark genre-crossing brand of psychedelia, doom and pop rock, Ghost are certainly one of the more unusual metal bands? Perhaps the hardest part of learning this riff is remembering the notes – a challenge with any song, of course, but takes notes from a mixture of scales so you can’t really pin it down to one easy shape. We’ve given you some shapes to follow here, but it’s best to focus on training your ear to pick up the music. Our video features a slow run through the riff so you can learn the notes as well as hear details like vibrato and palm-muting. Finally, note that the riff is in D standard tuning (DGCFAD) – the same as standard but two semitones lower.
