TY Segall is feeling antsy. Having just moved house, his home studio is still in boxes at his feet. He’s managed to get a tiny workstation up and running, but for a man who released five albums last year in various guises, it’s not quite enough. On the other hand, part of the reason for relocating to Topanga from central LA is to help wean himself off his addiction to recording. “I’m trying to not lock myself in the studio every day, because it isn’t a healthy thing,” he laughs. “That’s one of the main reasons for moving here. I’m forcing myself to relax more and not work constantly. It’s close to the beach and far enough outside of town that you can have some space. The beach can still get pretty busy, but on a foggy weekday, there won’t be anybody else down there.”
