IT TAKES A Village
ine months after their New Year’s Eve vows in Times Square, TV personality Maria Menounos and CEO Keven Undergaro took center stage in another place, Maria’s father’s hometown of Akovos, Greece, for a second wedding. “Marrying in Greece was always something I wanted to do,” Maria says. “Every time I went, (groomsman), and dad and took on the planning—with just 10 phone calls and a few images exchanged with Maria. After a Greek Orthodox ceremony inside the church Maria’s dad helped raise money to build decades ago, guests walked to a former schoolyard to find an enchanting tent covered in string lights. Raki shots with olives got the party started, followed by a family-style meal that included moussaka with smoked eggplant, black lentil salad and pasta with slow cooked leg of lamb. The Mediterranean-inspired décor put lemons on display, creating a sunny, relaxed atmosphere. “I used to joke I wanted to throw a party where the whole country’s invited,” Maria says. “We did that on a small scale in our village.” Keven adds, “My favorite moment was seeing Maria in the horse-drawn carriage, arriving at the church in her dress, smiling, along with her mom, dad and the people of Greece who were equally proud.”
