WITH every ack emma expedition it’s best to pack the night before, while the mind’s less bleary. It doesn’t always work, of course. I still smart at the memory of pitching up at a charity clay shoot with the boo totally tickety – cap, sunglasses, squibs – only to find I’d left the gun in the cabinet. As a result, I often go through the ridiculous ritual of driving 100yd down the road, pulling into a layby and checking the gear once again.
