MPEG-1 AND MPEG-2
PEG-1 and MPEG-2 are video codecs that are used widely, but because they were proprietary software, many distros (including Fedora) did not ship with them. However,) posted by Tom Callaway of the Fedora Legal team, MPEG-1 (H.261) and MPEG-2 (H.262) video implementations are now permitted in Fedora. So it appears that the patent constraints that plagued those codecs are no longer in use.
