EVERNOTE DESKTOP CLIENT

Quentier

Version: 0.5 Web: https://github.com/d1vanov/quentier

Making the most out of the Evernote service does not necessarily require you to install the official Evernote client. This time we will be stepping out of the walled garden in order to replace the official Evernote desktop client with something new.

Quentier is a very promising candidate for that, and even a brief usage showed that our Evernote notebooks load up and work just right. The very first time you start Quentier it shows a setup wizard and suggests you log in to your Evernote online account. The available options enable you to proceed with a Google authentication or continue with local settings. For everyone use to writing down notes in the mobile version of Evernote it makes sense to authorise the account in Quentier too.

Once set up, the application provides a very convenient way of writing things down. Not only is typing with a desktop keyboard more comfortable than using a touch screen, but Quentier also provides an advanced text editor that’s capable of rich formatting.

Everything in Quentier fits inside a single window thanks to the efficient tiling. Without switching anywhere you can see notebooks, tags, saved searches, the list of notes from the selected notebook and the current note open in the editor. It looks a lot like a well-designed mail client with a logical layout, tabbed interface, favourites and a plethora of extras that are revealed when you navigate inside the menu.

Quentier can manage more than one account at a time. In other words, you can set up a centralised mission control station for many Evernote accounts, and make everything work without a glitch.

The current official state of Quentier is alpha, but that refers on the whole to the lack of high-grade features, not stability. Still, when compared to other unofficial Evernote clients, Quentier looks like solidly complete and ready-to-use software. The Github page has Quentier builds for many platforms, including Windows, Mac and the universal AppImage bundle for almost any Linux distribution.

We love the idea of a gaming-specific version of Linux, but Drauger fails to deliver. Given the setup/kernel issues, you’re far better off installing Ubuntu, then adding gamingspecific packages yourself. CPU: 1.8GHz (2GHz suggested) Mem: 1GB (6GB sug
