Susan Seidelman made history in 1982 when her debut feature became the first independent stars Susan Berman as Wren, an aspiring musician and schemer from New Jersey – at the start of the film, she swipes a pair of sunglasses from a woman waiting on a subway platform, and makes a quick getaway as Glenn Mercer’s guitar-heavy score kicks into next gear. She encounters “Paul from Montana”, an artist living in a van who quickly latches onto her, but Wren’s more interested in pursuing Eric, the ex-singer of the band Smithereens.
