Altcar ESTATE LANCASHIRE

The Altcar Estate, just over 10 miles north of Liverpool in the Lancashire countryside, has a long, illustrious history. Always a sporting estate, it was owned by the Earls of Sefton and was home to the Waterloo Cup from 1836 until 2005. The 2nd Earl, a close friend of Prince Regent George IV, introduced the Waterloo Cup and went on to start the Grand Liverpool Steeplechase at Aintree, now known as The Grand National. The estate has also played host to many royal hunting and shooting visits in its time.
