Everything is already in place: the casting, the stories begging to be told, the sets and a rabid fanbase champing at the bit! There’s so much story to tell between Discovery and Kirk – the backstory of Pike getting command of the Enterprise, meeting Spock for the first time, plus seeing how Pike, Spock and Number One work together.

The characters of Pike, Spock and Number One have been there since the very beginning, even before Kirk, Uhura, Scotty, Chekov and Sulu. So this wouldn’t be a spin off, everything else is the spin off.
