ROUND UP
aking its UK HD debut: 1980’s (out now, Blu-ray). This middling slasher sees four high-schoolers who, as kids, bullied a girl into a fatal fall picked (out now, Blu-ray). Frankie Howerd stars in this horror-comedy co-written by Dalek creator Terry Nation, as a ham actor invited to a country estate for nefarious reasons. We said: “Howerd’s customary sauce is neutered, and while the Old Dark House trappings are present and correct the clichés rarely alchemise into actual laughs.” Announced too late for inclusion last issue: (out now, 4K/Blu-ray) has been remastered for another seasonal reissue, this time also in Ultra HD. The ultimate festive film, Frank Capra’s 1946 classic about a suicidal man (James Stewart, never better) who’s given the chance to see a world without him in it retains its power because it mixes sentimentality with palpable despair. Fresh bonuses: Making Of; restoration featurette; rare home movie footage of a wrap party picnic (43 minutes). Finally, the latest telly deluge includes season five, season three and season six (out now), plus season two (due on 9 December).
