I discovered the perfect place to kick off my shoes, pour a glass of bubbly and celebrate the blessings and beauty of life at the elegant Namushasha River Villa. Taking the concept of a houseboat to another dimension, the villa is moored on a private channel of the Kwando River, 30 kilometres south of Kongola in Namibia’s far north-eastern corner. This is the lush Zambezi Region, where waterways wend their way through floodplains, and elephants, buffalo and red lechwe roam, hippos chortle from the water and the calls of Fish Eagles fill the air. Sound inviting? The river villa, fondly named ‘Masheli’, the local word for ‘water lily’, offers five-star exclusive accommodation, with an upstairs bedroom and en suite bathroom, and downstairs lounge and fully equipped kitchen.
