MANY WRONGS AND ONE BIG RIGHT

I just flew home after meeting my girlfriend’s mother. Kind of a big deal—made even bigger by the fact that my girlfriend and I are both nomadic, and in order to meet said mother we had to road-trip 1,300 miles over the span of two weeks. On top of that, it’s the longest period of time that the two of us have spent together at once. Being in an international long-distance relationship can be a pain in the butt.

Those challenges alone were plenty to deal with, but we were blissfully unaware of what else we would face. Everything—and I mean everything—that could have gone wrong went wrong. This is not a story about a bad hair day, a hot coffee burning your tongue, or the package you ordered not arriving on time. The series of unfortunate events within those 1,300 miles put our new relationship to the test over and over again—and that’s an understatement.
