A TINY TOWN ON A BIG LAKE

For the outdoor enthusiast, Eufaula is a diamond, shimmering in the sunshine. This was part of the draw for me. When I came to Eufaula from Clarksville, Tennessee, where I’d been staying with a friend over the winter, I was seeking a place where I could build a cabin and live off the grid.

I wanted a chance to slow down, to figure out what to do with the rest of my life, and to focus on writing. I had no idea I’d be really figuring out my future by visiting my past.

Coming to a small place was a bit frightening at first. I didn’t know how people would be, and I knew that I’d have my work cut out for me. I was as prepared as I could be.
