CASTLEVANIA: SYMPHONY OF THE NIGHT £33+ EXPECT TO PAY (JAP
DEVELOPER: KONAMI
RELEASE: 1997
■ Virtually everyone considers Symphony Of The Night to be the best game in the Castlevania series and it’s certainly something we’d never dispute. Koji Igarashi’s reboot was such a huge success it created a template that many later games followed and led to similar adventures being termed as ‘Metroidvanias’. While it’s not the rarest Castlevania game out there, it’s certainly one with some of the highest price variances. The PAL PlayStation version is arguably the most collectible variant as it features English text and, like the Japanese version (£33+), comes with an excellent CD soundtrack. We’ve seen mint complete copies sell for as much as £350, but £200 seems to be the going rate. If you see lower prices, double-check the listing as it’s probably missing the bonus CD, manual or game. If you’re not fussed about the soundtrack then the US NTSC version is the best option as it runs at the correct speed and costs
