Designer Notes

Family camping trips to Myrtle Beach over spring vacation were a part of my childhood. On one of those trips we took a break from the beach and visited the quaint tourist town of Pawleys Island, where we wandered through shops. A kit to make a needlepoint doll caught my eye in one shop, but my parents denied me the purchase. I remember making drawings for a doll of my own in my sketchbook as soon as we returned to our car. Once home, I created my little doll. Eyes, nose, mouth, shoes and undies were worked into the design. Her hair was made from yellow yarn with lots of French knots for curls. I still have my little needlepoint doll today- she sits in my studio, reminding me that my constant desire to create began early in my life and has not changed through all these years.
