CASTLES AND COAST
MY HOUSEMATE PEARL and I have been to Scotland and its lovely islands on many occasions in the past, so this time, we had to think for a while about where to go.
Although we had visited the area around Inverness before, we didn’t know Speyside and the Moray Coast, so we decided we’d explore there, basing ourselves in Nairn.
Breaking the journey
We also planned to spend a few days visiting Pearl’s sister Shirley, who lives near Berwick-upon-Tweed, to break our journey to the northern Scottish Highlands.
Our chosen campsite for this detour was Beadnell Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site, which is in a beautiful location.
While there, we took advantage of one very crisp, sunny day to visit the bay’s long sandy beach, where we could also exercise Shirley’s dog. This is a wonderful beach, flanked by dunes with miles of pristine sand. The area close to Beadnell village was fenced off for breeding terns to nest.
The next day was wet, a foretaste of our trip further north, which limited what we could do, so we decided that we would head off a day earlier than planned.
