Me and the girls in my class stood shivering on the games pitch, awaiting our first hockey lesson.
Aged seven, one by one we were handed a battered, old wooden stick.
But when it was my turn, a metal tennis racket was passed over to me.
‘Can’t I have a hockey stick?’ I asked, confused.
‘We think you might be more comfortable with this,’ the PE teacher explained.
