POWER TO THE FEW

Until Ferrari unleashes its own sport-ute in a couple of years, super-high-performance SUV lovers might want to consider Maserati’s 2019 Levante Trofeo V-8.

How come? Under its sculpted, power-bulged aluminum hood sits a new 3.8-liter, twin-turbo 590-hp V-8 monster hand-assembled by the artisans at Ferrari in Maranello. This engine is one of the most powerful ever fitted to a Maserati and, with 156 hp per liter, it has the highest power output of any Maserati to date. Combine that with all-wheel drive to lay down all that power, a 50/50 weight distribution, an 8-speed automatic with launch control, and 60 mph from rest comes up in just 3.7 seconds. Top speed? That would be 187 mph.

From the outside it certainly looks the part. The Trofeo package features 22-inch, forged-alloy rims, a ground-scraping front spoiler, carbon-fiber side ski ts, and a new aero rear bumper with a racy rear diffuse.

The first version to be offered will be a limited-run Launch edition available with Grigio Lava paint, matte-finish rims, and ed brake calipers. Inside, it’s all black leather and blue
