Oakmont is the picture of a perfect American city: a chicken in every pot, and a writhing, unknowable, tentacled creature in the garage. The city is in the grip of a Biblical flood, and its citizens are dealing with it by just carrying on. It’s unnerving in a way that feels realistic. Humans adapt, like frogs coming to the boil.
