Revolutionary Australian dance company Bangarra celebrates 30 years

It was 1989. The stage was set: following the bicentenary celebrations of European settlement, the country was divided. The word ‘reconciliation’ had just been voiced for the first time and there was a growing demand for Indigenous land rights to be recognised. It was at this pivotal moment that Bangarra danced onto our stages for the first time, and the message was clear: Australian society must change to give space to Indigenous voices.
