THE SPICE OF LIFE

ASCENDING towards the 1175m east peak of Mount Mitchell (‘Cooyinnirra’) on a Friday morning, I’m grateful for the many luxuries afforded on this hiking tour – among them, knowledgeable guides, a light daypack, and the promise of a comfy bed, chef-prepared meal, and wine at day’s end. At the moment, though, I’m mostly thankful for the tour’s flexibility and support crew.

Our nine-person group (seven participants plus two guides) has just begun Spicers Scenic Rim Trail Two-Day Experience, and while conditions in Main Range NP – part of the Gondwana Rainforests of Australia World Heritage Area – are humid but fine at the moment, a pesky mid-March thunderstorm is predicted for early afternoon.
