THE BIRTH OF LBG
Sometime in the mid to late 1960s a group of rock anglers began to use game tackle off the rocks. They kept their success quiet for a few seasons but eventually their efforts became known. Ron Calcutt who was starting the magazine at the time, was one of the lucky anglers to have experienced those early years. Those pioneers have gone now but Beecroft Peninsula at Jervis Bay is widely regarded as the birthplace of LBG.
Over the next few years the word spread. Fishing World recorded some amazing captures from the rocks. It also detailed the trials and tribulations associated with LBG, discussed seasonal availability of species and revealed emerging tackle and tactics. It was exciting stuff and made great reading. The magazine followed the trend closely and helped cement LBG into angler lore and popularise it.
