CHANGING TIMES

Readers of a certain age and with long memories will recall the late Ron Calcutt writing about creating early editions of this magazine on his kitchen floor in Sydney. This was back in the late 1960s/early 1970s. By the time I came along in the mid-1990s, magazine and newspaper production technology hadn’t actually changed much. Type set copy, headlines and photos were stuck to “boards” by hot wax. These boards were proof read by editors and any changes made by marking the mistakes with a blue pencil and cutting the copy to fit with a scalpel before it was printed. I used to be pretty good at wielding a scalpel!
