BE QUIET!

An important lesson I learned many years ago was to be quiet when fishing. I did my fishing apprenticeship on the rocks and beaches where noise wasn’t that much of an issue but my father had a small De Havilland tinnie that we fished out of in Botany Bay and Port Hacking in the ‘60s. There were many lessons to be learned fishing the rocks and beaches but dad was fastidious about keeping the noise down in the boat. We were mainly bait fishing for bread and butter species and sitting at anchor a lot of the time and any noise and movement that made noise was frowned upon. That meant anchoring up as quietly as possible and sitting there for hours on end without knocking anything that would resonate through the aluminium hull. Not an easy task when you’re a youngster.
