BLUE CRAB BONANZA
There are few things in the world of seafood that taste better than freshly cooked blue crabs together with a cold drink. The delicate white meat of a blue swimmer is sweet and mild and is a seafood highlight for our family during late summer and into autumn. We’re fortunate to have such a selection of tasty marine crustaceans around our mainland coastline, but the old bluey’ is hard to beat in my book.
It’s not just the seafood focus that makes blue swimmers such an attractive target, but the hunting and gathering of these brilliant-blue crustaceans makes them an engaging species for the whole family. There’s not many bread-and-butter targets where teamwork is needed for better results, but blue swimmers tick that box. Whether you’re dropping pots, raking the shallows or jumping in the water to grab them by hand, collecting blue swimmers is an active and fun form of fishing.
Here in South Australia we’ve been having a brilliant run of blueys over the past few years in our shallow Gulf waters
