“As a kid I helped my dad in his shop. He subcontracted auto body repair for our landlord who owned Ulrich’s Sales and Service, a used VW shop in Mohnton, PA. One of the jobs I remember him working on was a Karmann Ghia. The other one that stuck out in my mind was a hippie Bus that he painted for the neighbor who followed the Grateful Dead in the ’80s. My dad also built several dune buggies and air-cooled engines, in which I learned how to drive. In 2005, after moving to Arizona, I began to search for a Ghia as a daily driver. I wanted a car that I could work on myself, something that didn’t have a computer. I couldn’t find one in my price range but later found a ’73 Porsche 914.
