VELVET BUCK HITLIST
Whitetail hunters often have a bucket list. However, it might not be the same for all. One might have a Boone and Crockett buck on it. Another might have a buck with a 24-inch spread. While others want to kill a buck in velvet. But shooting a buck in velvet requires a detailed game plan, because there are a limited number of places where you can get it done.
Most bucks shed their velvet within the first week of September, so with few exceptions — because of the early opening dates of the season — killing a buck in velvet is mainly a bowhunting-only opportunity. South Carolina is an exception, with select areas designated for gun hunters.
