Be my anchor Ultimate guide

WHO would have thought that the lump of steel/aluminium/stainless steel that you purposely throw overboard each time you stop could create so much variance, passion, anger, debate and confusion the world over.

Nevertheless it does, so what I hope to do here is to provide some clarity on what would work for you in the area that you anchor and also provide information for a secondary anchor, if required.

Am I qualified to advise? I have been in boating for way too long and have tried so many anchors it is actually ridiculous. I got my boat licence before I got my driver’s licence.

I have captained all types of vessels up to about 50 feet, with the exception of the hydrofoil-type vessels. While I was not classified as a captain, on the commercial vessels, I was directly responsible for the anchoring and general safety positioning of the vessels under the captain’s tutorage; mainly because I had local knowledge of the area, which helps when you are a fisherman.

I will not make any brand recommendations, or design recommendations. It is up to you to do your own research. I do have my favourite and if you do your research diligently I hope you come to the same conclusion of the best anchor to fit to your vessel.

I have concluded with a style type of each section that, ultimately, may lead you to come to alternative conclusions. I would hope though that you can provide me with alternative perspectives so I can take a different look at these items. I am always open to new perspectives and then investigating them.
