SHADY SAFETY FROM NAVIONICS
Navionics Australia have released Platinum+ Australian Charts now including its latest addition: Sonar Chart Shading, after its debut at the Sydney International Boat Show.
Sonar Chart Shading is included across the Platinum+ XL and XL3 chart range, enhancing the satellite overlay layer with new shading created by high definition contour data. The feature displays seafloor structures in varying shades of blue, making ideal fishing locations or possible grounding concerns, visible at a glance.
Users can now clearly see channels, drop-offs and other underwater structures over a wide area, while using the chart on a broad selection of compatible plotters.
Platinum+ charts also incorporate many other exclusive features for greater situational awareness: panoramic photos of marinas and ports, 3D views plus satellite overlay layers.
Sonar Chart Shading is also available for New Zealand.
CYGNET FLIES
Bluewater Cruising Yachts recently delivered its 16th Cygnet 20 to a Northern Territory couple, which now means its order book is full to September 2020. BCY director David Bradburn is excited to see the numbers of these easy to sail trailer sailers growing.
The gaff rigged, trailer sailer features water ballast, making it light to tow. The carbon fibre rig means only 15 minutes to being on the water; the yachts sleep four and sail well in both light and strong conditions. One of the first yachts built has been competing successfully at twilight races in Pittwater.
Number 4 hull was shipped to Western Australia and exhibited at Mandurah Boatshow last November 2019. The last three orders for 2019 were for New South Wales, WA and Queensland.
Bradburn and the BCY team envisage that, as numbers grow, they could form a small fleet to go ‘raiding’: sail and row on beautiful rivers/waterways all over Australia. So far they have been on the Hawkesbury and Hunter
