EXIT STRATEGY

Conditions change. Emergencies happen. Sometimes we must leave an anchorage unexpectedly in the dark.

Before retiring for the night, plot an exit strategy that is easy to follow and takes you clear of dangers. Write your escape bearing where it is visible from the helm so you know which way to steer immediately you get underway. Have waypoints in your plotter, or follow the trail you made on entry.
