Contesting from Siberia: CQ World Wide CW at RWØA
Every ham radio competitor knows the feeling: Excitement, camaraderie, and sleep deprivation. Here we go again. It’s time for another CQ World Wide DX contest. I am privileged to participate at a station with very large towers and antennas, multiple operating positions, and good friends. Being in a rare CQ zone also doesn’t hurt.
Journey to RWØA
For me, the CQ World Wide contest weekend begins on Friday morning at the railway station. I must travel by train for 12+ hours to reach RWØA before I make the first QSO. Once there I will be among friends, and together we will compete in the multi-multi category of the CQ World Wide CW Contest.
For the 2018 contest, I began as usual with the long ride on), located just outside the city of Krasnoyarsk, more than 400 miles to the west.
