COMMUNICATIONS HORIZONS

The move to digital has swept television, many phases of ham radio, and even broadcast radio in some parts of the world. The rollout of digital radio for the masses hasn’t gone nearly as smoothly here in the U.S. and Canada. I don’t imagine there are many readers who haven’t heard of “HD Radio” or IBOC, but nearly as many aren’t fans for the “noise” it creates, particularly on the AM band. Recent movement in the broadcast industry suggests this might be about to change. (See CQ, July 2019: News Bytes: Digital-Only AM Broadcasting?)
