ICS-100, ICS-700 … you might be familiar with those federal government courses for people involved in emergency response. Now get ready to add some more letters.
The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) offers free online training via the internet. Go to <training.fema.gov/is/>. Click on the ISP Course lite, right-hand column. Scroll down and see the list of courses offered, in sequential order. Click on “Interactive web-based course” in the right-hand column. Then click on “begin the training.” Work at your own pace, completing each FEMA training element on your computer.
FEMA certificates (Photo A) showing successful training and testing are usually required for ham radio support by your local served agency. These are the courses that are most relevant to the amateur radio emergency communicator:
ICS-100: Intro to the Incident Command System
ICS-200: Basic ICS for the Initial Responder
ICS-700: Intro to theational ncident anagement ystem
