Arizona Radio Club Supports Wildland Fire Response
he Museum Fire started on July 21, 2019, shortly after 10:00 a.m., just a few miles north of Flagstaff, Arizona. Winds caused the fire to quickly grow past 50 acres, which triggered the activation of the Coconino County Emergency Operations Center (EOC). The Coconino Amateur Radio Club (CARC) was activated at 12:50 p.m., and personnel responded quickly The club has a great working relationship with Coconino County. CARCs Amateur Radio Emergency Service (ARES) component has a dedicated position in the EOC structure and has assisted on many incidents over the last few years, providing communications to field personnel when cell and radio coverage is limited or non-existent. The Coconino EOC () has stored amateur equipment and antennas that members are trained to set up and have operational within an hour of activation.
