Operating RTTY Portable Creating Your Own RTTY Hotspot

The proliferation of affordable laptop computers and handheld transceivers (HTs) has made it easy to operate digital modes while portable. Unfortunately, by their very nature, HTs have limited range, presenting a challenge to successful operation.

How to fix that? How can we operate RTTY from a portable with the convenience of a handheld and laptop? Lugging along a repeater is impractical and no one’s created a RTTY-via-internet system (yet!). We need to create our own RTTY “hot spot”! This can be done by wiring together two mobile transceivers located at a convenient spot within range of your HT. If you’re operating Field Day, these two rigs can be located within extension cord range
