was a familiar face throughout the golden age of TV westerns. The Texas-born actor guest-starred in no fewer than 19 episodes of (including a 1992 TV-movie spinoff) and 12 episodes of , and was the title character’s deputy in 81 episodes of . He also appeared in episodes of such series as , , , , , , and and had a continuing role as oilman Marvin “Punk”. Chief among his movie credits: (with Fess Parker), (with Joel McCrea), (with Audie Murphy), and (with James Stewart and Henry Fonda). Film buffs likely remember him best as the chain-gang boss dubbed “The Man With No Eyes” because of his mirrored sunglasses in (1967). Woodward was 93 when he passed away February 22 in Paso Robles, California.
