NO MATTER THE SEASON, Hobart’s icy waters don’t deter Ian Johnstone from his daily ocean swim. At dawn you’ll usually find him somewhere on the Derwent River foreshore joining fellow swimmers in what has become a well-established drill. “Today I have swum about two and a half kilometres,” the 59-year-old says. “I swim in the morning to keep active and enjoy life — it wakes you up and you feel vibrant for the rest of the day, and it’s a wonderful way to be part of the community.”
