Plonking myself on the sofa, I breathed out a deep sigh of relief and comfort. ‘Home at last,’ I smiled
It was December 2017, and my husband Phil, 58, and I had just returned from a holiday in Bruges.
My childhood sweetheart, Phil and I had been married for 38 years, and by now, we were seasoned travellers.
The year before, we’d been to Gran Canaria, and when our kids, Jennifer, now 36, and Mark, 32, were younger, we’d go on family holidays to France, Spain and Portugal at least once a year.
And when our two granddaughters, Daisy, eight, and Mollie, six, came along, they often joined us on our trips away.
We loved watching them splash about in the waves and spoiling them with ice cream cones.
Such happy memories.
