    It was pitch black when I opened my eyes. Something was tugging on my duvet. ‘Mummy,’ whispered a little voice to my left. ‘I’m scared. Can I get into bed with you?’

    ‘Of course,’ I mumbled sleepily, and my 10-year-old son clambered over me and snuggled down in the large four-poster bed between me and his dad. Within seconds, he was asleep – but I couldn’t drift off. I couldn’t shake an unsettling feeling that somebody was watching me.
