Australia has one of the highest rates of allergies in the world. According to research from the Murdoch Children’s Research Institute, one in ten infants experience a food allergy. This has partly come about because of the rapid changes in food manufacturing, diet and urbanisation over the past 50 years, particularly noticeable in developed countries. Couple with this the fact that each day across Australia 7.5 million people present themselves to a public hospital emergency room. That’s more than 20,000 people each day! These are a small emblem or tag worn on a bracelet or neck chain, bearing a message that the wearer has an important medical condition that might require immediate attention, or affect their medical treatment.
