The Final Ranking

"A crushing disappointment," as one CAR tester put it. While there are many good things to say about the new M135i – the engine is fizzy and responsive, the cabin feels solid and is more spacious than before – we couldn’t dismiss the curious instability at high speed; the excessive amounts of body lean in spirited cornering; and the feel-free steering. It lacks the excitement of its six-cylinder M140i forebear and, crucially, its archrival AMG A35.
