Conquering La Marmotte

HELD FOR THE 36TH TIME IN 2018, LA MARMOTTE IS ONE of the oldest and most prestigious cycling events in the world. Riders from around the globe challenge themselves against some of the French Alps’ biggest climbs, including the iconic Col du Galibier and the mighty Alpe d’Huez.

The event begins at the base of Alpe d’Huez where 7,500 riders begin to place themselves into starting pens. The route has been a stage in the Tour de France several times, taking in the Col du Glandon (1,924m), Col du Télégraphe (1,566m), Col du Galibier (2,642m) and finally riding up to finish at Alpe d’Huez (1,850m). Total climbing is 5,200 metres, which doesn’t sound too bad if you say it quickly.
