Salsa Cutthroat
IT’S FITTING THAT ABOUT A WEEK before I was handed the Salsa Cutthroat for review, a friend sent me a link to the complete list of bikes competing in the 2019 Tour Divide. If you’re not familiar with it, the Divide is a bikepacking race that follows the Great Divide Mountain Bike Route in the US, the world’s longest off-pavement cycling trail. Racers ride non-stop, some 4,400km, unsupported, with competitors choosing when to stop for resupply or sleep. There are no support crews and no team buses ferrying spare parts. The Tour Divide is the ultimate test of willpower and fitness. And it’s also the exact type of event this bike was built for – of the 80-odd bikes in the race this year, nearly one in four of them was a Cutthroat.
